In this blog post series, we shed light on customers Kitekraft's customers. We tell you what they do, what their vision is, and how our technology can help them to achieve it. Once our product is on the market these companies will be the first to be supplied with Kitekraft systems. This episode presents: Polarstern.

Polarstern is a German energy provider, who set their goal to “enabling the best energy transition to everybody”. Founded in 2009, they set out to change the energy market while taking social responsibility. Financed by their German customer base, Polarstern finances energy transition projects all around the world, in countries where infrastructure hasn’t been developed in a way that everybody has access to clean energy, or even energy at all.

But not only do they help around the globe, but also accelerate the renewable energy expansion in Germany. By offering biogas, establishing charging infrastructure for EVs, and developing and operating decentralized renewable energy plants, Polarstern helps to build a future proof energy grid. These efforts are represented in Polarstern being a common-wealth and B-corp certified company.

Left: Polarstern's 99kWp PV-project for tenant-electricity (Ger.: “Mieterstrom”) installed for Gemeingute eG in Hildesheim. Right: Project in Mahavelona, Madagascar, with120kWp and a 115kWh capacity battery to power through the night.

Driven by the vision to further expand their project portfolio, Polarstern wants to collaborate with Kitekraft to bring more wind power to decentralized energy plants. “We believe, that Kitekraft’s technology is a perfect match for small-scale systems, where traditional turbines are often not economically feasible.”, says Florian Henle, CEO of Polarstern. “Bringing flying wind turbines to agricultural and industrial use cases makes perfect sense.”

But not only within the sub-MW range, which is the target market for our first product, a 100kW system, Kitekraft and Polarstern see a fit. “Once these first systems are up and running, we’re very exited to collaborate on projects at utility-scale. Such larger projects really bring out the advantages of Kitekraft systems, especially in wind-park settings.”, Florian adds.

Given these ambitions, Polarstern is the perfect partner for Kitekraft: We’ll collaborate on first installations in Germany with our sub-MW systems, bring them to other countries to enable clean and economic microgrids/DER projects, and also scale with them into the MW-range for utility use cases. All in all, one could say: Our collaboration is future proof.
